Back

Sorry I’ve been a bit distant. I think the ‘stress’ of packing and moving and moving in and re-locating left me a bit discombobulated and un-blog-able.
I think I’ve just invented a phrase, and I think that’s the first time I’ve used ‘discombobulated’ in a blog posting, so I’m back with a bang!
The new place lacks the cosy feel of The Willows. That building was infused with the personalities and history of the family that owned it, and familiarity and comfort dripped from the walls like honey; this house is used by 20 different tenants a year for a week or two at a time, and it shows. It feels used and oft-vacated.  We’re doing our best with it, but I can’t imagine us ever feeling at home here. Which is just as well I suppose as we’ll be packing up again before we know it.
On the plus side, the riverside location is incredibly relaxing and poetic. We’re both spending long hours sitting by the back windows and just enjoying the view. Even today, when it rained all evening and there was an unpleasant wind, there was something naturally gorgeous about it.  Rain slashing against a window can be one of the most depressing things you can think of, but when you can look beyond the glass and see the raindrops bouncing on the river, it becomes somehow suddenly beautiful.
