I wouldn't say we're keen but we've packed already
I only have three and a half more days to work before our little Autumn soiree. I’ve decided not to tell you where Philippa and I are going, so that it feels more secretive and more like a proper getaway. The chances are I’ve told you already, but I can’t remember doing it and I make it a policy never to read back through things I’ve posted before, so as far as I’m concerned you know nothing about it; and that’s fine with me. I finish at midday on Friday and don’t go back til Wednesday at 9am. If all goes well it’ll hopefully feel like we’ve been away a fortnight.
In other news, our new member of staff for the overnight shift has the wonderful name of Steve Wintergarden. I assumed it was some kind of stage name or possibly a moniker he’d chosen himself when he decided to turn his back on his family in the past, but no. His birth name really is Wintergarden. It’s an Anglicised translation of the surname of one of his ancestors, who arrived in the UK on a small boat sometime in the 19th Century from Germany, or possibly Poland. Or maybe it was somewhere further East, I genuinely can’t remember as I only ever allow 10% of my brain to be in gear when I’m at my place of employment. And I’m only there for another three and a half days before our holiday…….
